Founded in 1970, the Department of Cinema Studies is one of the oldest and largest ones in Europe. We have particular research strengths in the areas of film history, especially early and silent cinema, media technologies and screen cultures in transformation, gender studies and national cinemas, in particular Swedish and Nordic cinemas. We are acknowledged as one of the leading research areas in the field of humanities at Stockholm University. The department offers courses on all levels from basic level to PhD, including a taught Master’s Programme with students from around the world. We are the only cinema studies programme in Sweden to have 35mm projection facilities for teaching on all levels.
During early Spring the department will merge with School of Journalism and Media and Centre for Fashion Studies. We will have a new webpage released. In the meantime we will put as much updated and necessary information in a few easy access pages. Primarly Schedules, Course texts, registration and application information. Some pages may not be as updated until the release of the new web page. The students office and International Coordinator will help to inform you if you have questions regarding your studies if you don't find it on our current web. We apologize for this and hope for a new fresh start with the new web very soon.
